Mousehall Country Estate lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in a secluded valley on the northern edge of the parish of Mayfield in East Sussex. Mousehall was first recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1086 and since then has been a working farm with a prosperous history.
Mousehall received its unusual name after the first traceable owner James De Moushall "James of Mousehall" during the 11th century Norman Conquest. It is not certain if Mousehall was formed from mispronunciation or misspelling of Moushall surname as the archives note Monsehall, Monse, Mouleshale, Moushall, Mousehale were all names given to Mousehall.
Mousehall is not only home to our Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier vineyard, and various gin botanicals, but to our 23 Dorper sheep, 8 beehives, and Lily, Cody, and McLeod our Mousehall pets.
