History

The story begins in 1959, in the valley of Kathmandu, a quiet home to fresh running spring waters flowing from the Himalayas.

A group of people set their hearts to starting something special, for the first time in Nepal. Mr. J.R. Contractor rallied his resources. It was time to take the production of the finest rum to an unprecedented level. But great leaps begin with humble stories. Pot stills whose designs harked back to the 1870s were brought in and people pulled their sleeves up to concoct a blend that would replenish its drinkers for years to come.

The stuff of rum, from the sugarcanes that offer the rich caramel to the pot stills, the wooden barrels to the giant oak casks have become storytellers in their own right. And they speak of times, marked by a classic blend, which we have preserved until now so that the story is told again and again.

Distillery

It was in 1959 that the city of Kathmandu became home to Nepal Distillery Pvt. Ltd- one of the first distilleries established in Nepal's organised sector. In the late 1950s, Mr. J. R. Contractor tapped into what were some of the most ideal conditions to make a distinct, quality rum-the fresh spring waters of the valley and its cool temperature.

These were some of the gifts of the valley unique unto itself, to the making of a classic rum. The pure and fresh waters is essential to the quality of rum, and the ideal climate of cool temperatures facilitates a slower aging, giving you a very nuanced flavour that speaks of the beauty of time.
