Mallorca Distillery’s Gin Palma grabbed a gold and the Best in Spirit by Packaging award at the 2019 London Spirits Competition.
The unique design and packaging of this bottle bagged them a Gold Medal in Best Spirit by Packaging. The bottle represents the history and culture of Palma in the packaging, with an attractive design. Byron & Amber went to a family-run Mallorcan business in Campos, where they’ve been making tiles on the island for over 80 years. That's where the inspiration of the stunning tile design on their bottle came from. The bottles are printed with organic ink, where they also tell about the gin in three local languages - Mallorcan, Spanish, and English.
“When we arrived, we noticed how popular gin and tonics had become, served in big glasses. We were excited to try the local gins, but we found that there were very few and that there were no premium spirits hand-made locally,” he said. “We knew that this could be what we could offer the island, our new home.”
Mallorca Distillery uses locally sourced organics products, which also gives them an opportunity to work with the local farmers. Palma Gin is organic grain alcohol distilled with locally sourced organic ingredients, which gives a taste of the island to anyone who drinks it. Capturing the feeling, look, and flavour of the vibrant city of Palma, and the beautiful island of Mallorca, Gin Palma includes 7 local botanicals: almond flowers, orange leaves, tomato branches, orange and lemon peels, and junipers. These botanicals together with Mallorca Distillery’s other 7 organic botanicals are what makes this gin both unique and delicious.
Byron and Amber fell in love with Mallorca island over 8 years ago, and they officially shifted there around 3 years ago. As soon as they returned to the island, they thought of bringing Palma Gin in existence. Before that, they lived in Edinburgh, where they had a Belgian craft beer bistro. It was there that they saw the artisanal distillery revolution at first hand, with products such as Edinburgh Gin and The Botanist.
“Winning a Gold medal and Best Package really is fantastic!” said Byron, on hearing the news of Gin Palma bagging the Gold Medal for Best by Packaging. “I and my wife have worked on the project for over 2 and a half years, so it really is amazing to get such positive feedback after working so hard on this project,” he further added.
