Poetic License Wins Six Awards at a Spirits Competition

The Poetic License Distillery was awarded six medals at the 2018 annual London Spirits Competition

Based in Sunderland, United Kingdom, the Poetic License Distillery is a small and passionate team of distillers that believes in being bold and bucking the trend. They express themselves through their flavours and believe in breaking the rules to find a tastier way. Their main tool of production is their still, affectionately called Grace which is a hybrid and can be used both as a pot still and a column still.

The gins from Poetic License Distillery had a very good showing at the 2018 London Spirits Competition as the distillery won a total of six awards at the competition. Six gins from the distillery won the medals and these were:

Northern Dry Gin: With an overall score of 94 points, the Northern Dry Gin was awarded a gold medal by the judges. This gin contains a big punch of juniper finely balanced with green cardamom to give it a spicy and warm flavour. It also contains undertones of lemon and eucalyptus.

Sarsaparilla Gin Liqueur: Another gin from the house of Poetic License Distillery was awarded a gold medal with a score of 91 points from the judges. This version includes the unique flavour of sarsaparilla root coupled with a slight note of aniseed as well as sweetness from licorice root and vanilla.

Old Tom Gin: The Old Tom Gin scored 83 points and was awarded a silver medal at the competition. This gin has a sweeter and peppery taste compared to their dry gins and includes rose petal infusions which give it a distinct character.

Baked Apple & Salted Caramel Gin Liqueur: This unique gin was awarded a bronze medal with the judges scoring it 71 points. This drink first delivers flavours of sweet, cooked apple backed by warming cinnamon. Further sweetness comes from the seasoned caramel which lingers to leave lasting flavours of caramelised apples.

Fireside Gin: The Fireside Gin scored 69 points and was a bronze medal winner at the 2018 London Spirits Competition. In this gin, the notes come from juniper, coriander, and orris fruit with the sweetness coming from dried winter fruits. The gin also has a zingy freshness from clementine.

Picnic Gin: Having scored 65 points from the judges, Picnic Gin was awarded a bronze medal at the competition. A gin creamy in texture and taste, Picnic Gin has a strong fruity nose. It contains the regular notes of juniper, coriander and orris fruit apart from the strawberries which have an impact on the creaminess of the gin.

Poetic License Distillery uses traditional methods for production which are labour intensive but help in ensuring that the spirits that are crafted are of high quality. The distillery believes in giving the customers spirits that are unfamiliar in taste and very rich in character.
