ChiaroGin: A Family’s Journey to Share Authentic Italian Craftsmanship with the World

Inspired by Lake Moro and crafted in small batches, ChiaroGin combines Italian artisanal distillation, locally sourced botanicals and family passion to create an authentic premium gin

In today's premium gin market, consumers are increasingly looking beyond flavour alone. They want authenticity, provenance, craftsmanship and a genuine story behind the bottle. For distributors, retailers and importers, brands that can offer both exceptional quality and a compelling sense of place are becoming increasingly valuable as the category continues to evolve.

ChiaroGin is one such brand.

Born from the passion of a family determined to transform a dream into reality, ChiaroGin represents a deeply personal interpretation of Italian craft distillation. Rooted in tradition, inspired by the natural beauty surrounding Lake Moro, and produced in small numbered batches, the London Dry Gin combines artisanal production with a clear ambition: to bring authentic Italian excellence to consumers around the world.

That commitment to quality and craftsmanship has already earned industry recognition. ChiaroGin was awarded at the London Spirits Competition 2026 and previously secured Second Place for Best Packaging at the 2024 Gin Awards, achievements that highlight both the quality of the liquid and the attention given to every aspect of the brand experience.

Yet the story behind ChiaroGin began long before any awards.

The project was founded by Marco, Federica, Sofia and Cristian, whose shared passion for spirits and distillation gradually evolved into a family venture. Growing up in a region rich in biodiversity, traditions and natural beauty, they initially dreamed of creating spirits but soon discovered the challenges of entering the category.

That journey ultimately led them toward gin, a spirit whose versatility and creative possibilities immediately captured their imagination.

Rather than rushing to market, the family invested significant time learning the craft. They attended specialist distillation training in Piacenza, developing the technical foundations necessary to pursue their vision. What followed was a period of extensive experimentation, research and refinement.

After a year and a half of trials, adjustments and countless hours dedicated to understanding the delicate balance between botanicals and distillation, ChiaroGin emerged as the expression of everything they had been working toward.

The result is a London Dry Gin that seeks to balance tradition and innovation while remaining firmly connected to its place of origin.

Central to the gin's identity are twelve carefully selected botanicals, several of which are cultivated near Lake Moro, an area that holds particular significance for the family. These ingredients help create a spirit that reflects the landscape, aromas and character of the region while maintaining the structure expected from a classic London Dry Gin.

The botanical recipe includes juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, cardamom, fennel seed, calamus, rosehip, pink pepper, mint, Roman wormwood, helichrisum flowers and hyssop. Together they create a layered flavour profile that combines herbal complexity, floral elegance and fresh balsamic notes.

Production follows a traditional London Dry approach using the Carter Head distillation method, a technique particularly valued for its ability to preserve delicate botanical aromas. Distillation takes place in small batches of just 375 bottles using a discontinuous copper still equipped with a double reflux column.

This meticulous process involves distilling all botanicals simultaneously while treating them according to their individual characteristics. More robust botanicals are infused directly within the boiler, while delicate ingredients are placed within the gin basket, where they are gently crossed by alcohol vapours at temperatures between 70 and 74 degrees Celsius. The approach allows the distillers to preserve aromatic nuance while achieving balance and clarity.

The resulting gin displays a crystal-clear appearance and a flavour profile that reflects the complexity of its botanical composition. Juniper forms the backbone of the spirit, supported by coriander and angelica, while floral notes and pink pepper contribute aromatic depth. Mint, wormwood and hyssop provide freshness and balsamic character, while fennel seed and calamus add structure and texture. Rosehip introduces a subtle astringency that adds length and encourages another sip.

Beyond the liquid itself, ChiaroGin demonstrates a level of craftsmanship that extends into its presentation.

Each bottle is individually labelled and hand-numbered, reinforcing the small-batch nature of production. The square bottle design, characterised by sharp lines and substantial weight, reflects the premium positioning of the brand. The label artwork incorporates geometric representations of all twelve botanicals used in the recipe, while a stylised angelica flower serves as the brand's icon, creating a visual connection to one of the gin's defining ingredients.

For today's trade buyers, this attention to detail addresses a growing demand for products that offer more than technical quality alone. Consumers increasingly seek brands that communicate authenticity, provenance and craftsmanship through every touchpoint, from production methods to packaging design.

Perhaps most importantly, ChiaroGin represents a broader ambition to make authentic Italian artisanal products accessible beyond their local market. While many small producers face challenges reaching international audiences, the brand has embraced e-commerce as a means of connecting directly with consumers worldwide. This commitment allows customers to access a genuine Italian craft product directly from its source, helping preserve the authenticity that sits at the heart of the project.

In an increasingly competitive gin category, differentiation often comes from genuine stories and meaningful connections to place. ChiaroGin delivers both. It is a product born from family, shaped by patience, inspired by its territory and refined through craftsmanship.

For importers, retailers and consumers seeking authentic Italian spirits with a clear sense of identity, ChiaroGin offers something increasingly valuable: a premium gin that carries not only the flavours of its region, but also the passion, dedication and vision of the family behind it.
