At the top is whiskey, which accounts for nearly 40% of overall spirits consumption. Then, the aniseed represents more than 20%. Rum represents about 10%. White spirits that include gin, vodka and tequila also represents 10%. The liqueurs and creams are about 9% and the bitters constitute 5%. The punches and cocktails sold readymade represent about 2% sales. Finally, Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados and other spirits are found, whose consumption for each of these products is less than 0.5% of the French market. Here are some of the leading French spirits retailers.
Quality whiskey and especially Scottish whiskey is the first-class drink. It is still produced in a traditional way with traditional raw materials. It takes years to mature and the aromatic palette of its tastes and flavours seems endless. As the highest quality spirits, it is also a gift of choice that is always a pleasure. At The Whiskey Shop, they welcome more than 2.5 million customers each year to one of their 21 stores in UK and Paris. Most of the time, their customers come to them with this little phrase to mouth: "I do not know anything about whiskey but ...”. That's good; as they're there to help you. They have the chic to make simple what seems inaccessible. They speak simple and the quality of their service is legendary.

Founded in 1956 by Georges Bénitah, La Maison du Whiskey is one of France's leading specialists in the importation and distribution of rare whiskeys. A true reference, whose dynamism has largely contributed to changing the French market of high-end whiskey to that of fine spirits, it is this openness to fine spirits that gave birth to the new LMDW Fine Spirits boutique, Carrefour de l'Odéon, in Paris. It is the culmination of an international and artisanal approach to this universe. Resolutely passionate about the world of spirits, La Maison du Whiskey is undoubtedly one of the largest French players in the import and distribution of whiskey and, now, fine spirits. Over the last twenty years, La Maison du Whiskey has selected many official bottling’s but also whiskeys from the trading world. A selection supplemented by official versions specially bottled by distillery owners for La Maison du Whiskey. In other words, pieces sought by collectors.

The story begins at the time when wine was drunk in taverns or wine shops. And if in the mood to eat at home, they had to go to a wine merchant or directly from the producer to buy a barrel! It is from this observation that Louis Nicolas invented a new concept in wine sales that would revolutionize the habits of consumption and trading: bottled wine. Founded in 1822, the Nicolas House had at that time the main shop at 53 rue Sainte-Anne and three depots in Paris. The idea of providing a superior and consistent quality at a reasonable price created the reputation of the House. It is the No. 1 retailer of wine in France in the city centre having 494 stores in France and 1500 references in wines, champagnes and spirits.
