Double Jubilation for Italian Distillery Bepi Tosolini

A pair of silver medals were awarded to Italian distillery Bepi Tosolini at the annual London Spirits Competition

The journey of Bepi Tosolini Distillery began in 1943 when Bepi Tosolini decided to create a variety of grappa intended for the sophisticated and demanding public. Born in 1918 in Friuli, Bepi Tosolini invested his entire life chasing his personal dream. In the 1950’s he decided to build a new distillery in Udine and paired with one of the largest grappa cellar for this purpose. Eventually, the Tosolini distillery became a family affair and now it is headed by Bepi and Giovanna’s eldest son Giovanni and their grandchildren Giuseppe, Bruno and Lisa.

Two spirits from the Bepi Tosolini Distillery were awarded at the London Spirits Competition held in March, 2018. These two spirits were:

Bepi Tosolini

GIN T- The GIN T received a silver medal at the competition on the back of a strong score of 87 points. This gin features Italian juniper, vanilla, moscato grapes, orange peel and angelica as botanicals. During tasting, the earthy and oily notes of juniper arrive first and are supported by angelica and coriander herbaceous notes. The citrus cuts through them all and the gin also contains fruity notes of white wine. The subtle herbal notes of the gin are a delight and the look of the bottle is contemporary and luxurious.

GRAPPA SMOKED- An amber colored brandy with golden highlights, GRAPPA SMOKED scored 85 points at the London Spirits Competition. This spirit is a noble blend of selected friulian red grapes, aged in French oak barriques at the Tosolini distillery. At the nose, it has a smoked flavour but not too alcoholic and is reminiscent of a finely aged single-malt whiskey. The finish contains well-balanced spicy notes. The distillation is done using traditional methods with bain-marie pot stills and is made from a fresh promace of red grapes.

Through the three generations, the production rhythm and rules, ageing and refining have remained the same, while the focus has been on the evolution of the grappa. The primary ingredients are selected through a meticulous process in order to ensure an undeniable base for the distillates. The fresh promace is the first secret of our recipe, and the traditional stills, manual expertise and respecting of time for quality essentially provide the distillates with a unique personality.
